A Student's Comments on Habitat for Humanity Websites While sitting in my dorm room watching a DVD, I looked around and suddenly realized how lucky I was. I lived in a decent sized room with lighting and air conditioning that I could adjust to make myself comfortable. Then I thought how even more lucky I was to be able to go home too yet a nicer living facility at my own house that I have to share with nobody but my immediate family. It made me begin to wonder how many people there are that do not possess this luxury. That is when I thought of Habitat for Humanity. The only thing that I knew about it was that they built homes for underprivileged families with inadequate shelter. I wanted to see though exactly how this specific organization made a difference in peoples lives. Hopefully my research will enlighten my readers of the living situations of many families around the world, maybe even convincing some to volunteer themselves. Habitat for Humanity is a nondenominational and nonprofit Christian organization(Habitat for Humanity International). It is involved in the manufacturing and building of houses for those in need of an adequate shelter. Habitat for Humanity was established in 1976 and since, has built more than 150,000 attainable, sturdy houses in over 89 different countries(Habitat for Humanity International). This is a very impressive statistic considering all the political and economic issues that are going on in todayââ¬â¢s world. No matter where the home is being built across the globe there are three factors that give those in need access to an affordable home like these(Habitat for Humanity International). The website states that the first attribute of a successful and complete home is that homeowners are able to buy their new house at no profit with no interest charged on the mortgage. Secondly, it states that there are trained professionals there to supervise the volunteers and homeowners in building each home. Finally, financial support is provided to the organization by individuals, corporations, faith groups, and others. These three elements contribute equally to the success of Habitat for Humanity (Habitat for Humanity International). Habitat for Humanity has branches that are building right now in towns, cities, and countries all across the earth.

Method of Study To guide the researchers in developing the study, the proponent use SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) to meet user requirements in their business goals. SDLC is a series of steps and phases for the development of software. The phases of SDLC used are: (1) Data Gathering; (2) Analysis (3) Design; (4) Coding; (5) Testing and Evaluation. Data Gathering Phase is a collection of information that will be use to develop the system. The proponent studied the data needed by observing and conducting an interview. And in Analysis Phase is a process of collecting factual data, understand the processes involved, identifying problems and recommending feasible suggestions for improving the system functioning. This involves studying the business processes, gathering operational data, understand the information flow, finding out bottlenecks and evolving solutions for overcoming the weaknesses of the system so as to achieve the organizational goals. (http://oer.nios.ac.in/wiki/index.php/Phases_of_S ystem_Development_Life_Cycle). In Design Phase is based on the user requirements and the detailed analysis of a new system, the new system must be designed. This is the phase of system designing. à The logical design produced during the analysis is turned into a physical design ââ¬â a detailed description of what is needed to solve original problem (http://oer.nios.ac.in/wiki/index.php/Phases_of_System_Development_Life_Cycle). In Coding phase is a system design needs to be implemented to make it a workable system. This is also called the programming phase in which the programmer converts the program specifications into computer instructions, which we refer to as programs. It is an important stage where the defined procedures are transformed into control specifications by the help of a computer languageà (http://oer.nios.ac.in/wiki/index.php/Phases_of_System_Development_Life_Cycle). In Testing and Evaluation Phase is actually implementing the new system into operations, a test run of the system is done removing all the bugs, if any. It is an important phase of a successful system. After codifying the whole programs of the system, a test plan should be developed and run on a given set of test data. The output of the test run should match the expected results (http://oer.nios.ac.in/wiki/index.php/Phases_of_System_Development_Life_Cycle). Models Used in Developing the Software Used Case Diagram ââ¬â It will show the role of each user of the system. In this diagram, we will learn the significance of each respondent on the flow of the system. Activity Diagram ââ¬â Activity diagrams are graphical representations of workflows of stepwise activities and actions with support for choice, iteration and concurrency. In the Unified Modeling Language, activity diagrams are intended to model both computational and organisational processes (i.e. workflows) (https://www.google.com.ph/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=WBSEVMWnKyK8Qfkt4GwDg&gws_rd=ssl#q=activity+diagram+meaning). Database Schema ââ¬â structure described in a formal language supported by the database management system (DBMS) and refers to the organization of data as a blueprint of how a database is constructed, divided into database tables in the case of Relational Databases (https://www.google.com.ph/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=WBSEVMWnKyK8Qfkt4GwDg&gws_rd=ssl#q=database+schema). Tools Used in Developing the Software Adobe Photoshop ââ¬â it is a photo editing tool created by Adobe Systems Inc. The proponent used this software to enhance photos for the design of the Graphical User Interface of the system. Visual Basic 2010 ââ¬â programming language created by Microsoft Company, the software that will be use to develop the proposed system. My SQL ââ¬â is the worldââ¬â¢s most popular open source database, enabling the cost-effective delivery of reliable, high-performance and scalable Web-based and embedded database applications (http://www.oracle.com/us/products/mysql/overview/index.html). Respondents of the Study The respondents of the study were IT specialist, Gym owners and clients who assessed the effectiveness of the product based on a set of criteria. The IT experts who will evaluate the system are IT people that have deep technical knowledge on the subject of this research. The Instrument A set of questionnaire was used in assessing the Gym Management system. Description The instrument called the Gym Management Assessment form is an assessment questionnaire. The items were categorized into the two factors: convenience and efficiency factors. Convenience factors were assessed based on three criteria: portability, security and maintainability. Efficiency factors, likewise, were assessed based on the three criteria of reliability, functionality and usability. Each criterion under each factor had 5 questions. Response Mode -Responses were categorized using a 5-point Liker Scale. Scale Description 5 -Strongly Agree 4 -Agree 3 -Moderately Agree 2 -Disagree 1 -Strongly Disagree Chapter IV Results and Discussion This chapter discussed the presentation, analysis and interpretation of all the data collected from the survey of the respondents as clearly stated in chapter 3. After reviewing, the method in this study, this chapter presented, analyzed and interpreted the data gathered from the survey questionnaire on UPHSDà Automated Clearance. Figure 1 illustrates the step-by-step development process that the proponent undertakes in developing the proposed system. Figure 2 Proposed System Development Flow These are the phases of system development strategy where both users and proponent engaged in the evaluation, design, and implementation. During the requirements planning and design phase, the proponents identify the objectives of the system and the information requirements arising from those objectives. These phase focused on reaching the project goals. During the first phase, the proponent is working with users intensely during the workshop to design the business or non-technical aspects of the system. As soon as these aspects are agreed upon and the systems are built and refined, a new system or part of the system are tested and then introduced to the Gym management. Use Case Diagram Use case diagrams are used to present a graphical overview of the functionality of a system.it is a type of static structure diagram that represents the user interactions with a system. This diagram portrays the different types of users and the various ways they interact with the system. In UML, the user is called actorand he can be human or an external system. The links between an actor and a use case are called associations. Use cases can be generalized, extended and included. Figure below contains the relationships and actors that illustrates and discussed the different set of structures of actions. Figure 3 Use Case Diagram Activity Diagram Figure Below exhibits thorough avctivity of registration of Gym Members and requires details to creat new account. Only the administrator can validate and verify the registration. Upon verification and approval new account is created. Figure 4 Activity Diagram Figure 5 Activity Diagram of User This figure shows the process flow of the User or the Gym Members. Once the user successfully logged on the system he/she can view the registration form, view of training programs, workouts, prices. He/she can also view his/her attendance. Figure 6 Activity Diagram for Administrator This figure illustrates the administrator different accessibility on the system. He/she plays a major role in this proposed system. He/ she will be the one who can access the registration of new members, viewing of the Attendance, work outs, trainings, transactions and also the generation of reports for this proposed system. Database Schema The figure below illustrates the database design and its entity relationship diagram of the different tables used in the database system. The diagram illustrates the one to one relationships among the table customers and customer transactions. The diagram demonstrates the relationship from one table to another. Figure 7 DataBase Schema Hardware Requirements This table below discussed the requirements of proposed system upon implementation. Category Specifications Architecture Dual Core Processor Processor Speed 1.10 GHz RAM 1gb Hard Drive 80 to 500 Gb sata Ethernet Adapter only supported ethernet adapter installed on computer Modem 56k Baud Rate Monitor Any Graphics Card Any Keyboard Any Mouse any Printer Any Chapter V Recommendations General recommendations The proponent brings up the significance of the proposed system along with the value of recommendations. The Gym Management System has attained its objectives. Thus the proponents recommend that the software must be implemented and can be adopted by any Gym or fitness business in reasons of it will allow the automation of manual process of membership registration, setting of workouts and training programs, viewing of attendance, transactions, inventory and generations of reports. This will speed up the manual process and gives effective, convenient and more reliable Gym Management System. The proponent chose the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology to expedite the software development process. The SDLC provides structuredà system development methodologies that guide the systems development effort toward quality systems that meet the user requirements and are delivered within time and budget. The traditional waterfall model has morphed into different methodologies that attempt to overcome some inherent weaknesses of this traditional model and other older models developed after the waterfall, which will be examined in the section below. This continued adaptation of the SDLC to meet current challenges in information systems development is expected to continue and is the crux of the validation of its continued relevance in information systems development. Some of these newer models include Structured Systems Analysis and Design Method (SSADM), Rapid Application Development (RAD) Extreme Programming (XP) Spiral, Fountain, rapid prototyping, incremental, and synchronize and stabilize. http://www.ukessays.co.uk/essays/computer-sciences/an-essay-on-the-sdlc-model.php The proponents used the descriptive narrative survey method to gather data. Statistical research describes data and characteristics about population or phenomenon being studied. Descriptive research answer the question who, what, where, when, now. The proponent selected 20 Gym members to serves as respondents of the proposed system. Performance will be acceptable to the end users requirements and delivering the system fully functional.à The study used the following statistical treatment; the distribution shows the number of responses obtained for each statement or item in the questionnaire. Conclusion The proponents came up with the following conclusion based on the findings: Based on the surveys and questionnaire the respondents came up that the Gym Management System is more effective and convenient to use. Registration, the response of the respondents is very effective with the weighted mean of 4.31; Log In, the response of the respondents is very effective with the weighted mean of 3.97; User Friendly Features, the response of the respondents is very effective with the weighted mean of 3.97; Inventory of Items, the response of the respondents is very effective with the weighted mean of 3.97; Generation of reports, the response of the respondents is very effective with the weighted mean of 3.97;

Most people have heard of Yiddish, a Hebrew and German hybrid language. Were you aware that there is another composite language, which contains Hebrew and other Semitic languages, that is an offshoot of Spanish, called Ladino? Ladino is classified as a Judeo-Spanish Romance language. In Spanish, its called djudeo-espanyolà or ladino. In English, the language is also known asà Sephardic, Crypto-Jewish, or Spanyol. History of Ladino In the 1492 diaspora, when the Jews were expelled from Spain, they took with them Spanish of the late 15th centuryà and expanded the lexicon with language influences from the Mediterranean, primarily where they settled. Foreign words that mixed with Old Spanish derive mainly from Hebrew, Arabic, Turkish, Greek, French, and to a lesser extent from Portuguese and Italian. The Ladino community population took a large hit when the Nazis destroyed most of the communities in Europe where Ladino had been the first language among Jews. Very few of the people who speak Ladino are monolingual. Ladino language advocates fear that it could die out as speakers more often use the languages of the cultures around them.à It is estimated that about 200,000 people can understand or speak Ladino.à Israel has one of the largest Ladino-speaking communities, with many words borrowed from Yiddish. Traditionally, Ladino was written in the Hebrew alphabet, writing and reading right to left. In the 20th century, Ladino adopted the Latin alphabet, used by Spanish and English, and the left-to-right orientation.à à Whatà Its Like Although separate languages, Ladino and Spanish are inextricably linked in a way that speakers of the two languages can communicate with each other, much like Spanish and Portuguese speakers can understand each other. Ladino retains Spanish vocabulary and grammar rules from the 15th century interspersed with many borrowed words. The spelling resembles Spanish. For an example, the following paragraph about the Holocaust, written in Ladino, very closely resembles Spanish and would be understood by a Spanish reader: En komparasion kon las duras sufriensas ke pasaron los reskapados de los kampos de eksterminasion nazistas en Gresia, se puede dizir ke las sufriensas de los olim en el kampo de Kipros no fueron muy grandes, ma despues de anyos de vida en los kampos de konsentrasion, en teribles kondisiones, eyos kerian empesar en una mueva vida en Erets Israel i sus planos eran atrazados agora por unos kuantos mezes. Notable Differences From Spanish A big difference in Ladino is that the kà andà sà are usually used to represent sounds that are sometimes represented in Spanish by other letters. Another notable grammatical differenceà from Ladino is thatà ustedà andà ustedes, theà forms of the second-person pronoun, are missing. Those pronouns were developed in Spanish after the Jews had left.à Other Spanish language developments that came after the 15th century, which Ladino did not adopt, included distinguishing different sound for the lettersà bà and v. After the diaspora, Spaniards had given the two consonants the same sound. Also, Ladino does not include the inverted question mark or the use of the à ±. Ladino Resources Organizations in Turkey and Israel publish and maintain resources for the Ladino community. The Ladino Authority, an online resource, is based in Jerusalem. The authority proctors an online Ladino language course primarily for Hebrew speakers. A combination of Jewish studies and language studies programs in universities and associations in the U.S. and globally offer courses, revival groups or encourage Ladino study woven into their studies. Disambiguation Judeo-Spanish Ladinoà should not be confused with theà Ladino orà Ladin languageà spoken in part of northeastern Italy, which is closely related with theà rumantsch-ladinà of Switzerland. The two languagesà have nothing to do with the Jews or Spanish beyond being, like Spanish, aà Romance language.

Hadi Berbari Professor Bucher Honors 100 September 16th, 2015 The Role of Hubris in Determining Fate Hubris is a Greek term which means excessive pride toward or defiance of the gods. In Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, Oedipus and his biological parents, Laius and Jocasta, were overcome by hubris and attempted to outsmart the gods,using what little knowledge is available to us humans, in an effort to escape their own fate. Along with hubris, Oedipus posses hamartia. Hamartia is a tragic flaw. In Oedipusââ¬â¢s case, his flaw is extreme pride and determination. Oedipus and Jocasta may seem to have been fated to certain tragedies, but it was their actions, provoked by excessive pride, that brought about their downfall. The first act of hubris took place when Oedipus was three days old. Jocasta claimed that she had received an oracle, not directly from the gods, but from those who assisted them. The prophecy stated that Laius was to be killed by his own son, conceived during Laius and Jocastaââ¬â¢s marriage. In light of this knowledge, Laius bound Oedipusââ¬â¢s ankles together and ordered that he be thrown out into the deserted mountains and left to die. After having disposed of their son, Laius and Jocasta tricked themselves into believing they were able to outsmart the gods by fleeing their destiny (770-790). And thus, the first of many acts of hubris had been committed. In todayââ¬â¢s society, it is normal and expected for media outlets to provide information to society. Often times, these media outlets will adjust, edit, and modify these stories in an effort to make them more appealing to itââ¬â¢s audience. In this paper, I will be critically analyzing and comparing the similarities and differences between a news article of the wealth disparityâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦As a whole, the news article targeted their audience with each individual statistic, stressing the significant achievement gap between white and black families. Jean Yeung and Dalton Conley, authors of the original journal, demonstrated a thorough scientific journal, where they presented their hypothesis, methods, and results. Making it clearly known, the authors established that they would test the effects of both income and wealth on children, and to further differentiate the two, they would also analyze the sources from which they acquire their wealth. To avoid confusion, they define wealth as assets accumulated from sources other than income. These sources were individually examined to find their respective impact on young children, and they were further categorized between liquid and illiquid assets. Additionally, Yeung and Conley assessed the physical environment of the home, addressing the idea that wealth and income impacts the family as a whole, which may further affect the children and their cognitive performances. With respect to their test material, Yeung and Conley found that the various forms of wealth have drastic effects, eac h of which impact each member of the household in significant ways. Their results showed that racial disparity in wealth is considerably larger than in family income. More specifically, it was found that a greater number of white children lived in a household that owned both liquid and illiquidShow MoreRelatedThe Black Disadvantage in the United States1655 Words à |à 7 PagesThe Black Disadvantage in the United States Racial profiling, higher risks of incarceration, poverty, unemployment, more student debt; these are just some of the issues that African Americans face in the United States today. Before the Europeanââ¬â¢s began to explore the Americas, people were already living in them. Groups such as the Mayas, Olmecs, and Incas lived in these lands. Their civilizations made many major achievements. Like all creatures, the peoples had to adapt to their surroundings. They found ways to live in demanding environments. The Moche lived in the dry Peruvian desert, which is broken by rivers. The Moche built a very elaborate system of irrigation canals that took the water from these rivers to their dry land. This made the soil fertile, and easy to plant on. This achievement gave the Moche peoples food such as corn, avacado, and peanuts to survive on. After the Moche empire fell, the Inca came into power. The Inca brought the Andes together by building stone highways. Over 10, 000 miles of roads were built by these people. Every day 150 miles would be built. These highways along with Inca rulers helped keep the Inca empire together for a long time, but nothing great can last forever. Other than building 80 great cities, the Maya created a calendar, very similar to the one we use today. This 365-day solar calendar was very practical. It was used for electing new leaders, such as we do, and also used to figure out the best time to plant crops, such as we use seasons. While studying ancient history, we often tend to focus on Europe, and Europe only. It is important to learn the achievements of other people. While everything in Europe was going on, other people in other parts of the world were making accomplishments of their own. These accomplishments have contributed much to the way we live today.

The complete works of Shakespeare coursework Essay The idea of condensing over 100 hours of the plays of William Shakespeare into 100 minutes of pure comedy is considered to be one of the unprecedented feats in the modern world of stage performance. Rapidly spreading throughout the world, this unique concept will undoubtedly thrive for as long Shakespeares work remain popular. In a action-packed, roller-coaster and breath-taking production, three overly-energetic actors offer an insanely packed yet entertaining version of the complete works of william shakespeare. Originally conceived as a production for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, this reworking of Shakespeares masterpiece for the MTV generation has transformed into one of the worlds most entertaining and sensational comedy shows. This was can be seen even before the play had started. When I first entered the theatre, I immediately noticed the backdrop which was compressed of tapestry loud with titles in graffiti. I thought it looked like a one-dollar production set-up produced in a kindergarden school. Furthermore, the Elizabethan stage wear that was teamed with hose in electric hues and Converse sneakers caught my eyes the moment they hit stage. At that very instant, I realized that this was a formal shakespeare play. It was wild comedy! Among many other literary devices, the electronic toy dinosaur and the disapproving looks on the actors face were thrown together with hysterical results. Also the knowing asides characteristic of Shakespeare transformed into crazy segments of audience participation like portraying Ophelia for the Nunnery Scene. Usually, whole phrases and sentences which are deliciously preserved but delivered with pathetic urgency, have effectively become part of the collective consciousness To my great relief, one the most famous and respected soliloquy from Hamlet was delivered successfully ending in tremendous applaud, and at the same time without losing the awe and gravity with which it was originally conceived. The strength of the cast is in their over acting as they happily quote and misquote Shakespeare at breakneck speed. One of the actors work that I found most significant was Rob Carlton, Berynn Schwerdt and Tim Schwerdt showed off the power of three. They acted as themselves (present day scholar-entertainers) acting out the dizzying range of characters that peoples the bards whimsy. Rob possessed a maturity that lent a certain comic irony when he played youthful roles. With a brilliant albeit incomprehensible treatise on Shakespeare, he spoofed the intellectualisation at work in scholarly circles. Berynn, the tallest of the three, and looking the most ridiculous in his red tights and carefully groomed moustache, made us laugh uncomfortably along with him as he and his butter stumps lackey whipped up a batch of human brain pie (or something like that). You can guess which play that alluded to! His best moment belonged to his overwrought take on Hamlet. Every psychotic spasm worked! Initially, it seemed as though Tim was lagging behind his fellow thespians in energy. But it was all a set up. As the playful, too eager, and usually misinformed student of 17th Century life, Tim farted and vomited his way to become a most offensively endearing cross-dresser. One of the OMG moments was the extremely inventive: Titus Andronicus, which was played as a TV cookery show complete with almost high fives. Supposedly, the original version of the story was a gruesome and gut-churning. However, the way it was performed was comical and hilarious. I simply couldnt help laughing as I watched the poor guy get his throat sliced. But later on, I felt kinda guilty. Another OMG moment was when the cast used and abuse a hapless audience who was dragged reluctantly on to the stage to perform as Ophelia. The embarrassment and humiliation I witnessed on her face was unbelievable! I couldnt help feeling how luck I was for being seated in the middle row instead of the front row. At the same time, I thought the method breaking the fourth wall had a lot of interactive and Brechtian potential that I could use in my own drama coursework.
